Neoncoloredpixels On the Making Of “One”

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "One" and the story it tells?

Good question! My previous release last year was called "Emotion" and so my new release called "One" is like a follow up. It is hard to explain what it is about because my songs are comprehensive. The song might loose the sincere meaning when I add rational meanings to it. The song is in the first place mostly about what you feel. Nowadays and maybe it was always like that, there is so much rational untruth. My art and songs challenge the listener to use their own senses. It’s all about how much you trust yourself and your own senses. It's like, what is true for you when you feel and hear the song? Next to the feeling, the text has a meaning as well but is comprehensive too. I think that is the beauty of making music and writing songs; I can auralize things in different ways than what is possible to only tell with words. So the conclusion is: you need to feel this one.

What did you enjoy most about making "One?"

I loved making this track in any way. In the past, I worked a lot on my computer but nowadays I use mostly hardware. It is pure happiness and love that I experience when working on my groove boxes (Roland MC505 and 101), sampler (Roland SP404A) and synth (IK Multimedia UNO). I have a new AKG microphone that makes me even get more excited about doing the vocals. Since I do not see myself in the first place as a singer but a creative music producer it motivates me to be creative with vocals as well.

I work mostly intuitively when making songs. By just doing and grooving right away, I am in the right mindset. My own tarot reading channel online inspire me as well for my songs and my art. Next to that, it's impossible to ignore great artists that live rentfree in my head. So existing tracks inspire me. I love the uplifting vibe of the song: "Written in the stars" by Tinie Tempah and Eric Turner.

How do you feel this song represents your artistic identity?

Thank you for asking because I agree that the song "One" represents my artistic identity. I think the song "One" represents the comprehensiveness of my communication and how music helps me to even express more by auralizing the message as an artist.

How has studying at art school in the Netherlands made an impact on your music career?

Every experience in life does make us who we are. Art school but also the study I did as multimedia designer, was for me a lesson to understand that how a message comes cross to other is not self-evident. You could be surrounded by people with the same passions but you will see everyone has a completely different take on the same topic. The beauty of creative environments is that you learn to visualize and express this in multiple ways. In society, we use the word visualizing more often than auralizing. So through explaining my experience through art school it might be easier to understand that music helps me to auralize messages.

Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and composing music?

Sure, I will also be making (live) videos while making a song. The first live video will be on June 22nd 2024 on my YouTube channel. I will announce it also on my Instagram page.

I am by the way not a teacher but an artist so I don't have a standard procedure. I go by the gut. With the song "One" I started first with making a text. After that I tried out how to sing the lyrics. You can see some videos of it at Instagram and TikTok.

Than I made a beat. I realized when making the song that the text needed to change to reach the feeling I wanted to achieve with my song.

In October 2024 my debut album is coming out.
