What was the creative process like for this particular "What You Did To Me?"
I wrote this song 2 years ago in Nashville, TN when I was probably the least happy I have ever been. I gradually built this song over the two year period, as I worked towards self-fulfillment, the song almost completed itself. It's the longest I have ever spent on an individual track, and had many other releases and projects while this slow burn cultivated.
Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for "What You Did To Me?"
Absolutely. I had redone some of the instrument tracking what felt like a million times because I couldn't get a tone I liked. I moved not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES during the making of this, so my home studio was constantly disrupted. I'm surprised I got anything done.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "What You Did To Me?"
I got to record all the vocals at Spotify's Los Angeles studio :).
Can you share an instance where you felt a strong connection with the crowd during a show?
I've told the audience that there is so much pain and cruelty in the world, that it is a duty to ourselves to have self-love. Maybe if we embrace ourselves so confidently and unapologetically, people will follow in our footsteps.
Is there a specific song that holds a particularly special meaning to you? Can you share the story behind it?
Rhinestone Cowboy by Glen Campbell. I'm baffled that I can remember things from being a toddler, but my parents would blast this song in the car when I was itty bitty with all the windows down, and we'd all sing along. They're the reason I love music so much.
