Me & Melancholy Releases ‘Open your eyes’

Me & Melancholy is the brainchild of musician and producer Peter Ehrling, a one-man project that delves into the world of electronic music with a focus on melancholic, synth-based sounds. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Me & Melancholy was derived from Gränsen, established in 2022 and draws inspiration from some of the most influential synthpop and new wave bands of the 80s and 90s, including New Order & Depeche Mode as well as indie bands from 90s and today such as Radiohead, Pavement & Bloc Party. This unique blend of retro and contemporary sounds creates a nostalgically upbeat and introspective atmosphere in each Me & Melancholy release.

As a self-taught musician, Peter has always had a passion for electronic music and the endless possibilities it offers for creativity and self-expression. Through Me & Melancholy, he has honed his skills as a producer, creating a sound that is uniquely his own while still paying tribute to his musical influences. With a dedication to creating emotive, thought-provoking music, Me & Melancholy is sure to leave a lasting impression on fans of electronic music.

This album was written between May 2024 - December 2024. A couple of songs was already done and considered to be included on Illusio Veri, but I couldn't feel they really belonged there. The song ”open your eyes” was one of the first songs that was done. But I almost immediately decided it must be an opening track on the next album.

You will probably recognise the Me & Melancholy atmospheric dark sound from previous albums. I wanted it to be as minimalistic as possible. It’s so easy to think about what all others are saying, add some texture, riser, more build up etc. While I recognise that can do wonders on mainstream radio tracks, that is not what I want. To be honest I would probably not listen to that kind of music. With this album I have cared 0% of what ”you have to do” and 100% what I personally like. This makes it in my eyes Me & Melancholy’s best album by far and I could easily release every track on this album as a single.
