Kean Lane On the Making Of “did i tell you”

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "did i tell you" and the story it tells?

This song is about my relationship with my girlfriend. I talk about special moments we shared throughout our relationship and the way she made me feel each time. When I first played the chords on my guitar I felt nostalgia and warmth overcome me, so I knew at that moment that I had to write about her.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for this song to life?

I wrote, performed, and produced this song all by myself. Bringing the song to life was slightly challenging in terms of experimenting with different sounds and rhythms while maintaining my style and sound. There was inspiration across different genres that played a role in creating this song and I did my best in blending all of that into a cohesive sound.

How do you feel "did i tell you" represents your artistic identity?

"did I tell you" is a great representation of my artistic identity because it combines all the elements that define my music – heartfelt lyrics, a mix of acoustic and electronic sounds, and a focus on emotion and storytelling. It's a song that feels deeply personal to me, and I think it captures the essence of who I am as an artist.

How would you describe your musical style or genre?

My musical style is a blend of everything I listen to, indie-pop, folk, and electronic. I draw inspiration from artists across all genres, and I love mixing different elements of each to make something that is my own. All I am concerned about is capturing the emotions and stories of life.

How has your music evolved since you started as a singer-songwriter? What have been some key milestones in your artistic journey?

Since I started as a singer-songwriter, my songs were heavily focused on more acoustic and folk sounds, but over time, I began experimenting with electronic elements and more complex production. Throughout my journey, I have worked with other artists learning new ways to make music and performing in spots around Brooklyn. At every step, I learn something new and grow as an artist.
