Jonah Sirtes On the Making Of “Make Me Feel (Something)”

Can you share any interesting or unique musical elements or production techniques used in "Make Me Feel (Something)?"

I think my favourite thing on the track is the stuttering / pumping vocal effect, which is all thanks to Tremolator by Soundtoys. It's a super well known plugin but I still think it's underrated.

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of track?

I've been listening to a lot of different styles of electronic music recently, from artists like Fred Again, Overmono, Joy Orbison, all the way to Alison Wonderland, Virtual Riot and Odd Mob. I've been inspired by the layering and the use of special mixing to create an interesting listening experience, and I definitely have work to go.

How does this track fit into your overall artistic vision?

My goal at the moment is definitely to develop more of an audience, mainly as I'm working as a producer now, and I wanted to show what I've been learning recently with "Make Me Feel (Something)".

How has studying at Sydney Conservatorium of Music made an impact on your music career?

It's been great being at the Conservatorium, there's a lot of young talent constantly around you, and it's been good to watch other artists’ journeys during my time.

Are there any particular skills or techniques that you have been working on lately?

Lately, I've been working on a new technique called static mixing, where after I've finished composing and arranging, I'll make everything completely silent, and drag the volume of each track up one at a time to balance it all out! Stay tuned for more ❤️‍🔥
