Jaime Travezán “Straight People Can Be Cured”

Fresh from Jaime Travezán’s album Everybody Is So Funny, “Straight People Can Be Cured” is the perfect counter-statement slash cheeky vengeance on the conventional attempt to “cure” gay people. In a sensuous modern mix of EDM, House and Lounge, “Straight People Can Be Cured” draws parallels to the religious practice and conversion therapy with a dash of holiness echoing and hovering.

It’s no doubt humorous—the contradiction of the ridicule and the seriousness. However it is the story of many who failed to fit into the strict, “true” way of life. Underneath the lighthearted attempt of vengeance is the acute social issue that needs attention.

Travezán’s soundscapes are revealing and palpable. He taps into vulnerable places with sensitive, emotive sonics that pull your heart strings. Some fun loving, some heart, and some sorrow and anger—it’s all too relatable.
