Galvo On the Making Of ‘The HeARTist’

What was the creative process like for this particular 'The HeARTist?'

‘The HeARTist’ is an album born over 3 stages of my life, writing, recording, and living. 1st part being with someone, being in a band on the verge of success and myself feeling I got there. 2nd the hermit years of everything falling apart and now the final phase of completion. It’s a living expression in the sound and visuals of those times. And the journey to now.

Can you talk about the recording and production process for 'The HeARTist?'

Well, we were demoing an album for my band a dark horse, and then Hughs wife had their baby early. It was in pandemic times the beginning of it. So myself and Niall Woods drummer and sound engineer decided to use the time to make this album. Depending on the government directives we could be in a room together or sometimes we worked remotely, sometimes with masks sometimes without. Overall it was a rather odd time and odd experience. Once we got the main tracking done. I sent my notes to Hugh to do midi remotely. It’s all a bit like a fever dream to be honest.

What is your personal favorite song from 'The HeARTist' and why?

Each song has its moments depending on the time and mood or place I’m at within myself. At the moment I’m playing the hammer alot. It’s a song I kinda forgot about but I’m quite proud of it.

Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?

When I was a kid da used to play guitar and then my older brother and sister played and were in bands and I would tag along be snook into gigs. They also had really good taste in music all three so I was influenced by many genres and generations. Then seeing a fellow left in Kurt Cobain playing the unplugged gave me the want to play and I’ve been playing ever since.

How do you continuously grow and evolve as an artist?

I feel art is a spiritual life experience and not in a flowery way but in being as real as you can be with yourself and others, but mainly with yourself. There's a lot to unfold to, within and without and art is just the expression of those experiences at those times. And some times you don't realise that till many years later.
