fxrrvst Releases “Lavender”

Hello friends! We’re fxrrvst (pronounced ‘forest’), your friendly neighbourhood-queer alternative/indie/emo/whatever- you-want-to-call-us band, based in Toronto, Canada.

“Lavender” is fxrrvst’s highly anticipated first single since 2021. Fully self-produced, which is a first for Holly and Matt. The track stays true to fxrrvst’s signature indie-rock sound, but this time, blending a nostalgic 2000’s emo twist into the mix.

The catchy leading guitar melody coupled with a driving rhythm immediately starts getting legs shaking and heads bouncing, giving an upbeat and powerful feel to start the listener off. But as the lyrics kick in, you start to realize that this jumpy tune is coupled with a dark side. Tackling the topics of abuse and the associated traumas, Holly vulnerably showcases honest, yet eloquent lyrics recounting the mental struggles of enduring traumatic events, and the frustrations associated.

fxrrvst bridges the gap between word and sound to evoke this panic and frustration from the listener in many ways throughout the song, but mainly through the vocals.

We are treated to a debut scream in the song that instantly catches the ear while creating an ambience of anger and anxiety, along with haunting soft background vocals creating almost a ghostly image of a peaceful past self that is interrupted by distorted guitars and gang vocals. Ultimately, while still staying true to fxrrvst’s sonic trend of explosively growing their songs to the end, this track is exactly what this band is about.

If you’re a fan of indie rock and remember using Tumblr in the heat of highschool, this is a song, and band, for you.
