Five Hertz On the Making Of “Dancing with the devil”
What was the creative process like for this particular song?
Bassist Peter Stephens from Five Hertz: Pretty sure it was Yuri or Dan who had the musical seed for Devil. From there it worked its way into the shape of verse, chorus, breakdown, etc. It’s changed from when we first got it going especially vocally as Glen tried different things to get it to where it is now.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "Dancing with the devil?"
The one that was probably the funniest was when Dan, Jimi and I got in on recording backing vocals. It was heaps of fun and kudos to Yuri for not losing his shit in all the different takes while we worked out what key we were singing in, let alone the melodic lines.
How has the audience response been to "Dancing with the devil" during live shows?
We think it goes pretty well live! It has movement in terms of energy and pace and we think it has a good melody. It’s a good singalong song! We just need more people to know our music!
How did your band members initially come together?
Dan was the one that got us all together. We had people come in the early days but after Glen came in on vocals we have been pretty solid. It’s a great vibe and I think we all appreciate how rare it is to get that.
How do you continuously grow and evolve as a band?
The fact that we all have pretty diverse musical tastes is a real strength for us musically because there are always different ways people are thinking about the same thing and that means fun stuff can come out of jamming an idea and thinking about what we’ll do with that. Also the fact that we are all pretty open to ideas and don’t take ourselves too seriously means we can push and pull on ideas without wanting to kill each other…..most of the time 😁
