Feature: Two Strikes Decodes “Run Away”

Is there a person/event that stimulated the creation of "Run Away?"

“Run Away” is about loss, and how learning to deal with grief can sometimes feel like being in a trap you don't want to get out of. There's a strange sort of comfort in being at your lowest depths, coupled with the worry that if you do start to climb out it's a form of moving on from the memory of the person you've lost. Ultimately you need to push forward, but you're never quite the same person you were before.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?

The whole recording process was our dream scenario - we went to a fantastic studio in Southport called The Arch, and worked with an amazing producer (Chris Coulter) who became an extension of the band. We went into the session with some high hopes and all of them were surpassed. It's incredible to have a vision for a song and it to come out even better than you imagined.

How do you feel "Run Away" represents your artistic identity?

Two Strikes as a band, and all of our songs, it's all about authenticity. We're writing about real lives, in many cases its things that have happened to us directly or if not it's things that have affected those closest to us. “Run Away” is a direct result of that mantra, and is probably the most personal of all our songs, but also hopefully will create a personal connection for those listening too.

How did your band members initially come together?

We've been friends for over 20 years and been in various bands and musical projects together. Now felt the right time to do something that has a real meaning to each of us - we're all at a point in our lives where fulfillment and purpose are what's driving us, and Two Strikes gives us both of those in spades.

Are there any specific venues or festivals that you dream of performing at?

We have far too many bucket list venues and festivals to mention, but more than anything its about getting in front of audiences who enjoy what we do, and people we can share these songs with. That said if the guys from 2000 Trees are reading this, we'd love to come and join you next summer!
