Feature: Richard Tyler Epperson Decodes “All My Life”
What is the inspiration behind the song?
The inspiration for "All My Life" came from finding an old cassette tape of my father, Richard 'Rick' Craig Epperson, playing an acoustic demo of the song from about 25 years ago. This was a song I grew up hearing, and I always wanted to finish it. While working on this new album, I rewrote and completed it, blending my own style with his.
What does the song represent for your career?
For me, "All My Life" is an important track. It’s not just part of my upcoming album ‘Fragmented Night’; it’s also one of the most personal songs I’ve ever worked on. Finishing a song my father started and incorporating his voice was a way for me to honor him and preserve his legacy. It also shows my growth as an artist—musically, I’m at a place where I’m more open to trying different styles, and I think this song reflects that.
What impact do you hope "All My Life" will have on your audience?
I hope "All My Life" resonates with anyone dealing with the internal struggle we all face while navigating through this life. I want listeners to feel connected to the emotion in the song and I hope the connection between my father and I inspires people to follow their dreams as well.
Can you recall a particular moment, artist, or experience that had a significant influence on your music?
There have been a lot of influences over the years, but this song, in particular, takes me back to my dad and both of my brothers. Growing up, they were my influences. My dad introduced me to music and was always playing guitar or singing around the house. That laid the foundation for my love of music.
Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?
Yes! I’m really excited about the release of my upcoming album ‘Fragmented Night’. It’s a collection of some of the most personal songs I’ve ever written. Each track explores different emotional themes, and it feels like my most honest and vulnerable work to date. "All My Life" is a key part of the album, but I can’t wait for everyone to hear the other tracks as well. I’ve also collaborated with some incredible musicians on this project, which has elevated the entire album. I’m really proud of it and eager to share it with the world.
