Feature: PR3NOM Decodes “Aces”
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind “Aces” and the story it tells?
“Aces” is about my grandpa. He’s been such a huge part of my life. We’re not even blood-related, but he’s the only grandpa I’ve ever known, and he’s always been there for me, treating me like his own grandson.
When he had some health scares, it really hit me, and I started thinking back on all these memories we’ve made together and I realised how much he’s shaped who I am.
“Aces” is basically my way of saying thank you to him, a little tribute to everything he’s done for me. The song’s like a snapshot of our journey together and all the moments that mean the most. I wanted to capture that feeling of being truly accepted and the connection that you can have with someone.
How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for this song to life?
I actually produced “Aces” myself! It started as this casual thing: my partner was just playing around on the guitar, and I grabbed my phone to record a quick demo.
The recording is so imperfect but we never managed to recreate the feel with a proper recording so I just kept the original demo in the final version. I wanted the whole thing to feel super nostalgic and honest, so keeping that original, unpolished and raw sound felt right.
For me, the bridge is the real heart of the song. It’s where everything just clicks, and the emotions really hit you. I wanted people to feel that intensity, to feel like they’re right there with us.
How does Aces fit into your overall artistic vision?
“Aces” is a bit different compared to my usual stuff.
Normally, I lean into more electronic, polished sounds, but this track is raw, with some lo-fi beats that you don’t usually hear from me. It’s also probably one of the most personal songs I’ve made, so I wanted the focus to be on the vocals and the lyrics without any distractions.
I try to show different sides of myself through my music, and “Aces” was a chance to get a bit more vulnerable, to let people in on something real and emotional. I think it’s important to mix it up and not just stick to one formula—being able to show my softer, more intimate side is just as much a part of who I am as my other tracks. This song’s definitely me, just a different side of me.
Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?
Music’s always been my thing. I tried going down the academic route, but it just didn’t feel right, like I didn’t belong there. Honestly, even when I was studying, I was always daydreaming about music—it’s the only thing I could think about and the only thing I could never get bored of. I was clearly not happy there.
And well, it led me right here to London. I quit med-school in Switzerland (where I’m originally from), packed up my stuff and moved here to pursue music.
Now, releasing my first EP that I produced all by myself, I know following my gut was definitely the right decision to make.
How do you continuously grow and evolve as an artist?
For me, growth is all about trying new things and not boxing myself in. I’m constantly playing around mixing different sounds and genres to make music that sounds like me and is very unique to me.
A big part of it, too, is reflecting on who I am, and what I want to say. I mean, I just go out there, live my life and try to experience everything so when I come back to the studio, I can convert those feelings into songs, you know!
