Feature: Herr Vorragend Decodes ‘Die singende Diskokugel’

What was the creative process like for this particular album?

First of all, it was all new to me, since I had never produced an album professionally. I wrote the songs, recorded a demo with guitar at home and carried it to my producer, who translated it into good music. The drummer and guitarist did their parts after we had the song structures done. It all took a while, since we have jobs to do…

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for 'Die singende Diskokugel' to life?

My producer Nathan did basically all the work. When he got the demos, he showed me some songs on YouTube to show me what he had in mind, then took his guitar and created something that we both liked. Actually I loved everything he did, since he is a gifted musician.

Which song(s) from 'Die singende Diskokugel' do you think best represents your artistic vision?

Difficult to say but I love "Kleiner Johnny" the most, I think. It has a nice country touch, tells a funny story, has lyrics that sound harmless but it’s about drugs and sex.

How would you describe your musical style or genre?

So we created this new genre "Schlagerfusion", which is a combo of the German "Schlager" and Jazzfusion. Schlager, cause the initiative to write my first song was in Mallorca, where German Schlager is pretty famous. And it’s terrible! So I wrote a song to make fun of it in the same style. But with Nathan, we created something even better, cause it’s now with a real band. Long story short: I cross different genres and write funny lyrics.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

It hits me unintended in all kinds of situations. Usually, I need stress.
