Feature: DJ Nasty P. Decodes “That's The Hook feat M.A.D”

How did everything come together?

Mike aka MC M.A.D was in a group with Groove Armada, he is famous for his "superstylin" track that got to number 12 in the UK charts. He moved to my home town, One of my friends I used to do Hip Hop Clubs with put me onto him, the chemistry was great!... We have made occasional songs for a while now.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for "That's The Hook feat M.A.D" to life?

I AM THE PRODUCER!!!! My style is hip hop/boom bap/trap. I am active deejaying and have worked with some heavyweight m.c's before! I made this track as a sort of joke in the beginning as i sampled the big 90s hit by ABC, That’s the look. I had initially put it as a remix to a Roots Manuva track and thought he would sound great on it., I mastered the song myself rather than outsourcing engineers like some of my other projects.

What was your favorite moment in making the music video?

Just how it all came together! I had done some cororate gigs for 5-star Edinburgh hotel Cheval Edinburgh Grand, The area manager Grant had booked me for a few gigs so I actually proposed the idea of shooting a music video in the penthouse (usually £3000 a night!), when it wasn’t occupied, he okayed it to my amazement. The initial idea was for me to just do a low-key shot from my iPhone attempt!... 3 days before the filming date I randomly hit up a friend of mine who flies drones in competitions, sold him the idea and he brought the Scottish champion drone flyer and another pro, It all just came together!

Filming in a penthouse over iconic Edinburgh was a complete win win for all involved!

How has your creative process evolved over the years, and what have been the driving factors behind that evolution?

When I first made music I used to make it as more DJ edit style throwing everything at it. Through the years, I learned there’s a difference between beat makers and producers. I got real feedback from m.c's like Akil (Jurassic 5), Ed O.g, Oddisee, Skinnyman, Reks (my most recent EP).... these are some of my favourite artists who have worked with some of my favourite producers. Because they are on such a high level, I had to step my game up! I have learned soooooo much since I started until now! Less is more.

Can you share any upcoming projects, tours, or collaborations that you’re particularly excited about?

I used to be very precious of my releases however in this TikTok brain time I am just going to release stuff waaay more frequently!

I have ‘the undefeated’ EP just released with rapper Reks (DJ premier, pete rock, alchemist, etc) go check that out! So I will be doing another EP with him for sure!

I plan on doing another EP with M.A.D too after the release of this single which should drop by March!

I plan on releasing instrumental series every couple of months also!,,, just stay tuned to my artist name NASTY P.

Much more to come!
