Feature: Cris Cap Decodes ‘Live Like My Cat’
How did you come up with the idea?
Our cat Boomer has such a simple, carefree, and beautiful life! At some point, I thought: I’d like that too! What if I swapped places with him? Would I be happier than I am now? Ultimately, though, I think it would be too boring and monotonous for me! But I just love the idea...
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for ‘Live Like My Cat?’
Yes, I had a great time recording the guitar tracks with Wolfram. And working with Gary in Nashville was amazing too!
What do you like the best about ‘Live Like My Cat?’
The three things I love most about the song are Gary’s lead vocals, the choir that has a bit of a gospel vibe, and the guitar solo! I’m also always proud of the harmonies and the harmonic structure.
What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?
Oh, there are so many good and beautiful experiences. Often, it’s not the big things that matter most but the inner feeling of joy, harmony, and satisfaction while playing music. Or when you feel the audience’s enthusiasm! Okay, there are unique moments too, though they’re not always the ones that bring the most musical satisfaction—they can still be spectacular. For example, I once played with Ben Nemsi’s band in front of more than 200,000 people. That was on Borussia Dortmund’s stage, the famous soccer club, when they won the German championship in 2011.
Are there any specific themes or messages that you aim to convey through your music?
Because I know that music can act like therapy, I believe it can comfort and help, not just entertain. I simply write about my own experiences, thoughts, and feelings and hope they resonate with listeners in some way. That’s often how I experience music myself—it’s soothing, comforting, or just amusing. If I can achieve the same for my listeners, I’m very happy!
