Feature: Breon S.Y.N.D.E.L Decodes “ROSALUNA”
What inspired you to write the lyrics/music for "ROSALUNA?"
A few things: Late nights, deep thoughts, good mezcal and the momentum of the beat. It felt like when we made the song I was on a mission of some sort.
What did you enjoy most about making "ROSALUNA?"
To be honest I enjoy every part of the process the same for different reasons. I think with this record specifically one thing that was different in this process was the cover. Typically my covers are more planned and structured, however, this one was shot one random night out in the city with friends. My boy took it on his iPhone and for whatever reason it just matched the record perfectly, this is still during the mixing process of the record so he didn’t even know I was working on the record when we shot it. Pure vibes.
How do you feel this single represents your artistic identity?
I think it’s definitely a step in the true direction of my artistry. I think the next few records I drop this year will solidify the direction but I still have room to grow. Learning to look within myself more and release that rather than being more influenced by outside forces.
Was there a pivotal moment in your life when you decided to follow your path as a musician?
Yes, my accident. I was in a pretty bad wreck in 2019 leaving the avengers movie. Looking at an 18 wheeler coming right at you as you spin out on the highway does something to your fear. Not to say I don’t feel fear, I just have a different view of it since that day, but especially when it came to my desire to make music. My first record dropped a few weeks after that and I’ve been on the path officially since then.
What challenges have you faced as a singer-songwriter, and how have you overcome them?
I’m from New York bro, Brooklyn specifically. There’s “competition” from the moment I walk out the door. The competition is real it’s just there are a lot of people disrespecting music these days and it’s hard for things to break through. A lot of recycled sounds and a lack of focus on originality. The radio of New York seems to take the easy way out rather than discovering and looking for something new. I’m super grateful to my listeners for putting on their friends and helping the community grow. I know we will get h heard by the masses one day, but I guess that’s the biggest challenge thus far I’d say.
