Can you share any interesting or unique stories or perspectives in 'Stainless Steel?'
One of the songs on the EP was originally written for a male singer, and the title then was “Beautiful Girl”. However, it was never recorded by any artist, so when I started to release my own music, I realized that this song was in fact about my daughters and the feeling you have as a parent, when you want to protect your child against all evil, even though you know it’s impossible. With just some minor lyric changes, it became “Beautiful Baby Girl”.
Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for 'Stainless Steel?'
I always record my vocals in my studio at home – something I started doing during the pandemic. After recording the vocals to the song “Stainless Steel”, I discovered that my daughter’s cat could be heard meowing here and there. It would have been kind of fun to keep it.
What are you most proud about 'Stainless Steel?'
I’m most proud of having found my voice and that I’m now feeling confident about my way of singing.
What is your songwriting process like? How do you usually start crafting a new song?
Normally, I get a melody in my head and if I’m lucky, it’s followed by a snippet of text that I can then build on. I always try to finish the song in my head before I record it. My ideas, both melodies and lyrics, usually come to me spontaneously.
How do you balance crafting relatable stories with maintaining your unique voice as a songwriter?
I don’t think about how to balance anything, I just do what I feel I need to do at the moment. For me, the trick is not to overthink, but to follow my instincts and gut feeling. If I try too hard, I end up with a mediocre song.
