dvdv On the Making Of ‘STARVVING’

What was the creative process like for this particular album?

This album was being slowly created, without being an album in the first place. Poly Armour and I just loved collaborating with each other, we had such a beautiful symbiosis when it came to songwriting. Amnesty is from 2018, Triumph and Drip from around 2019. Chronic happened in the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, Your Lesson, Feathered Heart and Angels were born around 2022. The creative process was more like a raw expression of feelings. Whenever something had to come out, it went into the collaboration. It was a pure purge of emotions all the time every time. Lots of these tracks have been some kind of one-takes, with adjustments being done over the years. The visual aesthetic of this album comes from visions and dreams I had about new technology, that might approach Earth one day.

What impact do you hope 'STARVVING' will have on your audience?

I hope and wish that the impact will be realization and introspection in my audience, while also breaking their current understanding of the world in a healing way. I hope especially that people with mental health issues will find themselves understood and heard in these tracks, that they feel heard and held. I know the album can be pretty dystopian, but actually it has opposite intentions. Digging into the wounds to get the systematic bullets out, so it can heal and recover.

Can you talk about any standout tracks on the album and what makes them special to you?

This is a tough one because it seems like my standout track always changes depending on how I feel on the day that I listen. I would say the standout track that I would pick for now is "Angels." We have a music video in the works that I have been editing for almost 3 months now. It will be powerful. This track is special to me, because it represents my relentless and unlogical hope for the best after whatever happens. Whatever happens to me I got to trust, feel it through and move accordingly through the storm. Feeling the electrifying (but healingly growing) pain of what this system does to my (our) system, while elevating beyond and above this world into better places. Held and protected by angels.

What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?

I would say this album had been by far the most challenging, the most time-consuming and the most funded project I have ever worked on. Aside I am very proud of my music video with AUJIK for my track "00045 forgive" from my last album "what is the opposite of ambivalence." A an enchanted dance with the machines <3

Aside from that I also think my recent Remix compilation "WITOOA RMXS" was a big success, it brought in so many brilliant artists and showed me so much love.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

Everywhere, it is always hard to answer a question like this because I most likely will not remember it all right now. The internet, outterspace, but ofcourse many many artists that came before me such as: Blckcstls, Sade, Brandy, Little Dragon, Biosphere, Björk, Talvin Singh, Boards of Canada, Nitin Sawhney, Massive Attack, Faithless, Kelela, Brandy, FKA Twigs, Edyth, Clams Casino, Abbi Press, Pyur, Grxgvr, Grimes, Eyedress, Xamiga, Aphex Twin, Aisha Devi, Groundislava, Ic3peak, Emmavie, Rivka, Gorillaz, Telefon Tel Aviv, Sky H1, Enya, Pictureplane, Burial, ultrademon, RIVKA, Orbital & the list goes on… <3
