Crayola Lectern On the Making Of “Stars Over Louth”
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Stars Over Louth?"
The title came after the tune on this one. It ended up as a dedication to Robert Wyatt and Alfreda Benge, inspired as it was somewhat by their vibe. Robert liking the tune was a clincher and begat the title. The idea of the piece was not very conscious and it wrote itself really and felt extremely calm doing so.
Can you talk about the recording and production process for this track?
Thoughtless noodling on a piano with no expectations or intent to write often brings the magic. It's very short, so I repeated it for a second reprise with Al Strachan's added trumpet, which was the moment it became special. Until then it was just another thing sitting on the hard drive.
What impact do you hope "Stars Over Louth" will have on your audience?
I'd like to give them a bit of a moment to relax and step away from stress for a minute and a half in a world where lots of people need exactly that.
Can you tell us more about you as a band?
Crayola lectern is me and it is also us. We are Alistair, Damo and me. Sometimes we are bigger if the budget allows but we are at our core, three friends enjoying making something sweet together.
Can you share a memorable experience from a collaboration that enriched your music?
Every time Bic Hayes comes anywhere near my music, the magnificence of the heavenly realms reveals itself and the angels of destiny soar ever upwards into Gods own ears.
