Bliss Carmxn Releases “Hey Oh Hey”
“Hey Oh Hey” is about attachment and boundaries, and about the ambivalence of love. Written six years ago in a relationship on the edge, it was first produced in Toronto, and then Berlin on the queer label Wicked Hag. But it didn’t feel right, so Bliss drew a line in the sand. A new love, a new relationship to self, and a new producer have ushered in this track.
“Hey Oh Hey” is a song that’s upbeat, and yet it’s sung not with the conviction of a lover who has drawn a line in the sand, but in the moment where the saying of the words (‘Don’t say that you’re mine / Never gonna know what you’re hiding / Don’t waste your time’) is the moment you realise you have to move on.
This is the first single from the forthcoming EP ‘Hold My Hand And I’ll Hold Yours’ (February 2024) The EP acts like a relationship in reverse. We start at the end and end at the beginning. It’s a vulnerable, fierce, soft and joyful set of tracks that reminds us there’s always a new beginning when we draw a line in the sand.
Bliss Carmxn is a songwriter, performer, a dancing soul, an all you can eat buffet. Bliss’s music is hook-driven alt-pop with electro, disco and folk/country roots. Composed on the piano, the songs are explorations of love and loss, of desire and ambition, of home and kinship. Think Perfume Genius meets Daft Punk meets Paul Simon meets Marina.
