Artist Spotlight: Meet Patrick Doval
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind your "Back Home" and the story it tells?
“Back Home” is a song about the daily struggles of life, feeling lost and being stuck in the rat race and trying to find someone who can help you find your way "back home". In the music video, I play myself, a struggling musician trying to find success and stardom or maybe I’m just trying to find my way “back home” and walk away from it all. I’ll let you decide.
Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for this "Back Home?"
No challenges that I can remember. I wrote the song with Pete Parada in mind. Wanted a killer track that could match his drumming style. After I recorded the song, I shared it with Pete and he loved it. He then added his drumming which blew me away! The breakthrough moment was when I asked Pete if he would be willing to be in the music video and he agreed. The rest is history!
What was your favorite moment in making the music video?
Having Pete Parada in my music video was definitely my favorite moment but also breaking the guitar! I got a natural high after breaking it. It was a feeling of exuberance that I’d never felt before. It was definitely my favorite moment in making the music video but I also must mention, that I had to build a MUTOSCOPE or KINETOSCOPE from scratch for the intro & ending vision of the video and it was also one of my favorite moments in seeing it come to life.
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music?
I started playing music in high school after being inspired by watching my uncle play guitar. Soon after I was obsessed with recording and writing songs. I then began releasing songs in 2008 and with the help of Myspace, I gained a following online. Soon after I began filming videos for my music. 16-years later, I’ve released 6-albums and several singles and directed/created over 25 music videos to my songs. I have a passion for music and filmmaking and I am grateful that I’ve never wavered, never quit and stayed true to myself after all these years.
Can you share a memorable experience from a collaboration that enriched your music?
Having collaborated with Pete Parada on “Soulless Machine” and now “Back Home” has been an absolute dream come true for me. Pete is a world-class drummer and I never thought I’d have the opportunity to play with him or anyone of that caliber. It’s been an amazing experience and having him collaborate on my tracks has definitely elevated my music to another level.
