Artist Spotlight: Meet Luke Black

What was the creative process like for this particular track?

The creative process for the next body of work is quite strenuous and started immediately after my debut album. It felt like a necessity that turned into inspiration - which is why the song “VOMIT” is very intense and represents sort of a purge of negative emotions and a sort of excorcism.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for "VOMIT?"

I made a song first with my producer JEONNE and i just recorded a tiny vomit sound on my phone - we kind of started it as an instrumental club track, but got lost in conversations about fleeting romances and hookups in big cities. The first ideas for lyrics came about and then I worked on it further with a songwriter friend Camilla Dunhill and finished the track off with Shurk who I worked with closely for years. Nobody was super comfortable with vomit sounds and producing around them for hours, but I thought it was fun!

What impact do you hope "VOMIT" will have on your audience?

I really hope they connect with the sense of just screaming into the pillow or going into a car to cry loudly after having to pretend life is okay all the time. This is just a commentary on dating life but instead of crying it's tears of vomit.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

For 10 years I have in a sense always done things independently, with going through periods of abundance to desolation - I am both very wealthy and broke at the same time - so my ideas stem from a major label perspective and my execution is somewhat of a torture. I still keep doing it though, but the results might be dark and scary as opposed to colourful and happy. I find myself in the sonic spectre of shadow electronic music, but I am definitely making more rock, country & world music in the future.

How do you stay inspired and motivated to continue pushing boundaries in your art?

My inspiration before the big breakthrough years back was very intrinsic but now it solely revolves around my fans and conversations. I make music to make sure I get out of bed otherwise I'll be tied to it.

Additional info about music video:

The Music video directed by my friend Roger Spy is a showcase of a one night stand point of view through a perspective of the film The Exorcist. It made complete sense to combine horror and sexy as the song's sound dictated it. He made my break my body filming and have muscle aches for a whole week - ironically having to spend it in bed.
