Artist Spotlight: Meet Havard
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Alone At A Table for Five" and the story it tells?
The inspiration is my own life. I had a few years of major psychological problems, depression and anxiety. My family fell apart and my life fell apart. I was overtaken by my own past. I drank alone, went to bars alone and I was alone, ended up in psychiatry and others shoved me love. Life is better now.
Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for this song?
One challenge was balancing the song's melancholy tone with a sense of hope. A breakthrough moment occurred when the lyrics and melody came together to express this duality, creating a narrative that resonated emotionally without becoming too somber. I had a couple of versions where the Corus line was quite happy in melody, but it just felt wrong.
How does this song fit into your overall artistic vision and what can listeners expect from you in the future?
This song is a reflection of my focus on raw emotion and storytelling. It fits into my vision by highlighting personal experiences that listeners can connect to. On my new album ‘Mercy sea,’ coming on October 25, listeners will get more stories and reflections on life lived.
What has been one of the most significant moments of your musical journey so far?
When I was 15 years old I bought my first cassette, At the Budokan, Bob Dylan, I was shocked, also when I got hold of 461 Ocean Boulevard with Mr. Clapton, then I bought my first guitar. Significant
What role do you feel emotions play in your music, and how do you channel them into your performances?
Emotions are the backbone of my music, shaping the tone, lyrics, and overall feel of each song. They guide the storytelling, making the music relatable and authentic. To me emotion in music is more important then playing everything accurately on stage note by note.
