Artist Spotlight: Meet Corvyx

How did you come up with the idea?

Well, it was easy to pick this one, quite honestly. I’m no stranger to covering Sia on my channel. This is now my 4th Sia cover (including “Alive”, “Chandelier”, “Titanium”) and they always perform exceptionally well because her songs always allow me to excel both emotionally and vocally, and I believe the audience can feel that connection. It was also highly requested from my fanbase, the Corvyx Coven. Corvyx + Sia = smash. It’s formulaic at this point.

How does this electrifying "Unstoppable" reflect your musical journey and growth as an artist?

I believe “Unstoppable” is meant to feel inspiring but the lyrics are actually quite sad and tormented which is the brilliance of Sia. She’s a master at capturing the essence of desolation, loneliness, fear and juxtaposing it with triumph and hope through her dynamic and explosive compositions. It’s pure catharsis; an experience, a release. All that to say, my personal experience as an artist and a human being living on this planet is paralleled through this ability to feel everything so deeply but to endure through whatever may come. Being unstoppable doesn’t mean never failing or succeeding at everything you do, it means that you’ve gotten up more than you’ve been knocked down.

What impact do you hope this "Unstoppable" will have on your audience?

I never want to try to define the experience someone has listening to a track because I think that’s a personal one, however, I do hope it reminds them that their greatest source of strength is inherently within themselves and not in any external source, person, or thing. That “unstoppable” mentality must be fostered and nurtured from within and that even when they feel their lowest, if they get up again, that’s what makes them unstoppable.

Do you have a favorite song that you've performed or recorded? What makes it special to you?

This question is so tough. I always say, it’s like picking a favorite child and that it also changes depending on where I am in my life. I can give you a top 5 (in no particular order):
1) I’m With You - Avril Lavigne cover
2) My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion Cover
3) Running Up That Hill - Kate Bush Cover featuring King Vagabond
4) House of the Rising Sun - The Animals Cover
5) Heavy in Your Arms - Florence and the Machine cover

And I IMMEDIATELY feel bad leaving others out. I always do. But as I said, it depends and changes all the time.

Have you ever encountered resistance or pushback when experimenting with your art? If so, how did you handle it?

I encounter resistance and pushback every single moment I exist just by being the artist that I am. I think I challenge people’s perceptions about what people should look like, act like, sound like especially because my fashion sensibility lends itself to a darker, neo-goth style and I cover a lot of top 40 mainstream pop songs. For many people, this doesn’t quite fit into the neat boxes they’ve created in their minds about what the world should look like around them. I shatter a lot of those boundaries and people either love it or hate it. I don’t believe there’s a middle ground for an artist like me. I’m very polarizing because people either embrace the difference or resist it because they fear change and something they do not understand. I used to think this was a weakness for me but I think it’s actually been my superpower this whole time. The right people always find me and I truly love the following I’ve cultivated. Coven up!
