Artist Spotlight: Meet Bingo Boys

How did you come up with the theme?

It’s funny, it’s kind of a silly name. We always have our water bottles with us and like to call ourselves the “most hydrated band in Indianapolis” so that’s the origin of the name. Plus, it’s just good advice.

Was there any challenge that you encountered while making 'Stay Hydrated?'

We recorded it in a studio and I think the biggest challenge there is the post production, getting everything to sound like we wanted. There’s a lot of tweaking and adding layers, sometimes the hardest part is calling it “done.” Well… that and the diluted urine analysis.

Which song(s) from the EP do you think best represents your artistic vision?

I think the song “Gutter” is the most Bingo Boys sounding Bingo Boys song on this release, while “Paranoid Again” contains our most typical lyrical content, being about the general mental struggles of being alive.

What role do you feel emotions play in your music, and how do you channel them into your performances?

Emotion generally plays a pretty big role in our music. We do have some songs that aren’t so weighty, subject-wise, but most of our lyrics are highly emotional. A lot of it is frustration which I think comes with the punk rock territory. We complain about what we don’t like in our songs. It can’t help but to come through live. We try to make the music match the intensity of the subject.

Can you share a standout moment from one of your live performances that you'll never forget?

We have definitely had some cool moments playing live. Opening for bigger acts like The Subhumans, The Queers, and The Jasons, to name a few, is always a thrill. Sometimes a show just has great energy and it makes it memorable. Playing to an absolutely packed MagBar in Louisville, KY full of kids getting into and relating to the music stands out. Playing at the oldest punk house in the country in Carbondale, IL also comes to mind.
