Artist Spolight: Meet Matt Deangelis

What was the creative process like for this particular "All Good Things?”

The creative process for “All Good Things” was long but undoubtedly rewarding. When I first wrote this song, I never would have imagined the production to come out the way that it did. However, I am pleasantly surprised with the results and think this is one of my better songs. When I took this song into the studio for production, there were many hours of work put in for musical parts that we added. While I wrote the main parts of this song, there is always a great deal that goes into the production of my music in order to ensure that it is indeed a finished product.

Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for this "All Good Things?"

I initially wrote “All Good Things" about the conclusion of my childhood and the transition into adulthood. While it is true that the carefree times of childhood are coming to an end, bigger and better things are in store for the future, even though it signals your innocence has been left behind. Departing from what one has known in some of the happiest times in their life is certainly no easy release, but must be done for all. For those listening to this song, I intend for you to use my words to help you through the conclusion of your dependence and introduction to independence in life. While our future may seem frightening and unknown, acknowledge that while all good things are coming to an end, greater things await you for the rest of your life. Aside from this personal perspective, I began to also believe this concept can be interpreted globally, as there are many events in one’s life that can signal the end for all good things but leave the door open for a brighter future.

What has been one of your favorite memories along the path to making "All Good Things?"

The path to making “All Good Things” has certainly been enjoyable for everyone involved. While there are many great memories that have been made in the production of this song, perhaps the brightest moment came during the recording of the guitar on this song. My producer and guitarist Bill Kennedy added very tasteful parts to this song, and I believe this helped to complete the production and take “All Good Things” to the next level.

How do you continuously grow and evolve as an artist?

As a solo artist, there are many challenging moments where I have to evaluate myself as a songwriter, musician, and performer. It is certainly not an easy task, but I am able to evolve best as an artist by using the world around me. I always take note of what other artists are doing in the industry, but also change the styles of music I listen to on a daily basis. I believe it is important to keep an open mind and not be afraid to experiment as a musician and performer.

What's your favorite part about performing live? How do you connect with your audience during a performance?

Performing live is always an incredible experience. I love being able to showcase my talents on stage and bring joy to people, even if it’s just for a short time for them to escape from their everyday lives. Connecting with my audience during a performance is something I take great pride in. I adore singing to the crowd and connecting with different people, watching someone's face light up knowing that I have touched them with my art, is probably the biggest thrill for me. As often as I perform live, I never take any moment for granted.
