Andreas Gavlén On the Making Of “Far Too Late”

What was the creative process like for this particular "Far Too Late?"

I would say the process began during late summer with me playing with some chords and guitar riffs. I felt right away that the music and the lyrics had something that I wanted to develop further. The song was recorded with a good friend of mine, Henrik Roos. We’ve collaborated and made music together for many years, which contributed to making the creative process seamless. The final piece was setting the vocals and when this was done the song was pretty much complete. The song was recorded at Jonas Strömberg’s Slowbeat Studio.

Could you discuss the lyrical themes or messages conveyed in “Far Too Late”?

I invite my listeners to explore their own personal interpretations and emotions in relation to the lyrics and the song. But I would way the theme narrates towards anticipation, disappointment and the passing of time. For me its about waiting and longing for something that never happens and the feeling of wasted time.

What do you like the best about “Far Too Late”?

I generally like creating songs with a lot of rich atmosphere. What stands out to me when it comes to this track is the atmospheric depth that I was able to capture and I also think that I was able to convey the specific feeling I wanted the song to evoke.

Can you tell us more about you as an artist?

My journey began with my role as a bassist in various bands. A significant turning point was when Henrik Roos and I started “sonic: razzmatazz”, an indie rock band. It was in this partnership that I started to explore singing. Following my time with the band I took a break from active music-making, but I still continued developing my songwriting. Recently I felt I wanted to share my
music as a solo artist which resulted into me returning to the recording studio. I’m excited to explore new creative sides of my music-making and sharing this with a wide audience.

Could you share some of your musical influences and how they have shaped your sound?

Throughout my life I’ve been an avid listener of diverse genres but have generally gravitated towards the alternative music scene. Sound-wise I would say bands like The Cure, Arab Strap and the Swedish bands Broder Daniel and Kent have influenced the vibe of “Far Too Late”. These bands have the emotional, atmospheric, honest and vulnerable qualities which is what has always drawn me to the alternative music genre.
