Aetherfall On the Making Of “Weightless”
What was the creative process like for this particular masterpiece?
Using a mix of hardware and software and trying to form a coherent idea from the beginning, while looking at the wider picture in order not to get lost in the details. Approaching sound not from a sound designer's perspective but trying to sculpt it until it reaches a satisfying result.
Was there any challenge that you encountered while making "Weightless?"
The main purpose of this track was to create contrast, so the challenge was to create an equilibrium of aggressive and ethereal sound.
Is there a particular message or theme you hope listeners take away from this masterpiece?
It is a predominantly meditative track that seeks to express the contrasts shaping the human experience.
Have you ever had any particularly memorable experiences while experimenting with your work?
It was the first time I succeeded in creating a full composition that felt genuinely interesting within a modular environment. It was a revelation for me, as I felt liberated from the constraints of using a linear DAW. Moments like this make you realize that there's no need to be bound by specific rules when approaching sound or composition, and that realization is incredibly freeing.
