THE HYBRIS “Keep The Wolves Away”

Opening with a chilly, haunting guitar riff, THE HYDRIS explores the effect war has on its victim in their latest single. Punchy lyrics power through a metallic thunderstorm of sonics with a dash of dark humor. Because of the world is on fire and wars are happening in our living moments, “Keep the Wolves Away” reflects that deep into its sonics.

Like fired machine guns, fused the air with smoke and gun powder, the drums and guitars and bass have all lined up in military style. This time, each punch is harsher, each strum is bloodier. “Keep the Wolves Away” explores a storming, chaotic, contrasting sonic texture that instantly stands out from all THE HYBRIS’s previous releases. They have created very vivid, almost palpable imageries through this song, but it’s also rich of melodic appeal. The determined guitar riff and high tensity vocals have you fully engaged, head banging, blood boiling.

For THE HYBRIS, rock n roll and punk rock have already gone beyond the sound to its spirits, attitudes and core value. Leaning toward the tougher side, stepping into the genre of metal, they are unapologetic and hard core. Unlike the traditional punk lyrics, their lyricism are articulated with introspection and depth. A flair of poetry, reflecting the world without being too explicit. They certainly carry a sense of grace and style. Even though the lines are charged with emotions and angst.

Unlike our most familiar way of getting to know wars from news’ perspective, THE HYDRIS tackles a heavy subject with impactful storytelling, shedding light to the hard truth. “Keep the Wolves Away” uses a metaphor of the wolves—hungry, thirsty, two-faced, untrustworthy, and aggressive—how they have forced the villagers to flight and fight for survival. It’s traumatic and heartbroken to live life in a way that every decision would be the solely determination for life and death. Many don’t want to feel that because it’s horrifying, and that’s the truth, which THE HYDRIS is getting you to see.

In a world where most turn a blind eye on things that matter while others simply be too blinded by noises and lies, THE HYBRIS are sharp eyed and clear minded. In full confrontational style, they shove the truth in your face, where you can’t deny or run away no more. The music video of Putin’s solo dance party gives comedy a dark twist, which seems proper, nonetheless adding an eeriness to the experience.
