Peppermint Moon “Foxy Friends”

Nostalgia is a sensibility heavier than emotions and lighter than protest. What are we seeking in the past or in a memory that is preserved by documentation? Maybe is the touch and the blast of greatness and glory in an era that feels far yet still beats in our hearts. “Foxy Friends” lies somewhere between Sex Pistols and David Bowie, but its theme is very much in the present.

Late-night documentary of a legendary punk band has its imprints on the track, maybe not directly in the sound but so much so in the spirits. The feel and the energy of the relentless, daring, unforgiving youth has a touch of destruction, misfortune, and depression in “Foxy Friends.” There’s angst in there as well, in response to our current world affair.

Reoccurring melodic themes and hypnotic drum together feels as grand and intense as the ocean wave splashing on the rocks yet as abstract and impressionistic as a modern painting. Maybe “Foxy Friends” isn’t really a psychedelic track from Peppermint Moon, but it continues to have a light mixture of grungy garage and disruptive psychedelic in its Bowie-like glam rock sonic palettes and soundscapes.

Colin Schlitt’s voice is distant and blurry, floating in the sonic illusions with its own style and mood that seems to be making an artistic standpoint. The catchy melodies could very easily evoke a singalong, but the reflection and nostalgia feels like a long sigh that undoubtedly evokes a deeper emotional resonance that aches in your heart without a trace. “Foxy Friends” has so much history and experience in there to be treated lightly. On the other hand, the track is as captivating as it is intriguing.
