Medium Punch “Time In”

“Time In” is undoubtedly a very interesting track from Medium Punch’s collection of tracks in collaboration with various hip hop artist. One thing that sticks out instantly is how Medium Punch seems to bring out a more contrasting side of Cam James.

Cam James’s storytelling gives heart to the hook. There’s blood and story behind those seemingly simple lines. It hits hard and doesn’t require much more. James is an artist whose style of storytelling and rap leans more into the raw and authentic side, but that’s not only what Medium Punch captures here. In this collaboration, the Melbourne-based producer and multi-instrumentalist weaves both rock and hip hop together, forming an interchanging soundscape between hard-hitting glitches and haunting sentimental.

Listeners get to experience the shift in energy and sonic palette in one song. These changes also guide James to explore a more aggressive, emotionally edgy side of his vocal, as well as the deeply relatable storytelling that the artist is already a master of. There are punches and flashing colors in the track, but it’s also high-aesthetic and genre-blending.

Medium Punch has collaborated with more than a handful of artists. His track “Say the Word” in collaboration with John Defeo showcases a completely different vibe and sensation. Medium Punch is a versatile producer. He has a very interesting perspective when it comes to working with other artists. He can adapt and transform, but it also seems that he’s able to bring the artists he works with to a new level.
