5 Q&A With Wordplaii

What was the creative process like for this particular "Downhill?"

“Downhill” was made with a timeline in mind, I was creating the narrative that would be told down the line of an 8-song release, “Downhill” was the moment of being overwhelmed, feeling like my efforts in many aspects of my life weren’t paying off, and feeling as if all of the grief I was dealing with was too much too handle.

Were there any challenges or breakthrough moments during the songwriting process for "Downhill?"

“Downhill” was a moment where I really broke through in a way of learning how to dip deep within myself, be vulnerable, and display a narrative correctly by doing so and staying on track.

Can you talk about the recording and production process for "Downhill?"

The recording process was a bit rough. The breath control that it took for many segments of the verses, while also still trying to maintain a certain cadence took countless tries. I probably recorded the verses 50 times before I ever got them correctly.

Do you have a favorite song that you've performed or recorded? What makes it special to you?

Currently my favorite song has not been released, I am working on a music video for it as we speak so be on the lookout! It’s actually quite the opposite of Downhill. The unreleased song I consider my favorite is one that came towards the end of the 8 song project. It is about the triumph and dedication it took me to free myself from the struggles “Downhill” addresses.

How do you seek opportunities for personal and artistic growth in your musical journey?

By simply being open and kind to people. You never know who might be able to help you out or point you in the right direction. Lead with creativity and the rest will come.
