5 Q&A With Tidal Water’s Digital Noise
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Papa J's Digital Stereo Noise?"
*Tidal Water's Digital Noise* started as a collaboration between me and Papa J. We both aimed to fuse elements of 70s funk and electronic music with a modern twist. However, as the project began gaining traction, Papa J realized that his new job and becoming a father made it difficult to commit fully. So, he has decided to step back and feature on tracks, while I continued as the primary driving force behind the project.
Can you share any interesting or unique musical elements or production techniques used in this single?
So far the music blends glitchy electronic beats with live drumming and vibrant melodies. For example, in “Blind and Arrogant,” we balance unpredictable, glitchy textures with smoother, melodic elements, showcasing a dynamic range. Incorporating both digital precision and live instrumentation, creates a unique blend that keeps listeners engaged.
What impact do you hope this track will have on your audience?
My goal with The Tidal Water and Tidal Water's Digital Noise, is to reach listeners with different music tastes with meaningful lyrics that reflect on societal issues. And have some fun in the process, I don’t like being caged in with one artistic expression, so please don’t expect me to continue in one direction only. Especially within the electronic side project. Key word should be exploration and fun. In today's polarized world, I believe music can be a unifying force. I want the songs to encourage reflection, compassion, and unity. I hope to spark conversations about the divisions we face and the need for a more compassionate society.
Can you tell us more about you as a duo?
While this side project began as a duo with Papa J, it has now evolved into my solo project. Papa J will continue to contribute as a featured artist, but I also collaborate with a range of other musicians and producers, keeping the project’s sound fresh and diverse, first is a track together with Jims Lehner, Miami, and that is far from Drum And Bass..
Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and composing music?
My creative process involves combining live instrumentation with digital elements, often starting from melodies and ideas that evolve through collaboration. The themes of our songs come from personal and societal reflections. With *Polarity*, I address issues like greed, systemic inequality, and the impact of social media, always aiming to raise awareness without preaching. My focus is on creating music that resonates emotionally and intellectually without being dull.
