5 Q&A With Mary And The Sharks

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind "Better Days" and the story it tells?

I’m in a state of mind where I question where I stand in life and what I want for my future. "Better Days" is about that strange feeling of not really knowing where to go or what to do, while also trying to handle the pressure from society to become someone or something. It’s about trusting that everything will fall into place — but at the same time, it’s overwhelming and confusing. Sometimes, I look back and think everything was so much easier and better because people told me what to do and didn’t expect me to know.

Were there any memorable or standout moments during the recording sessions for this song?

It was my first time working with Luuk. He’s an amazing producer and multi-instrumentalist. Sometimes you meet people, and it just clicks. I think, overall, it was the feeling of connection and honesty throughout the whole creative process — no specific moment.

What impact do you hope this track will have on your audience?

I hope people can connect with the message. The world is changing so fast, and it’s truly challenging to keep up with everything that’s going on. There’s this strange expectation to always know what you want and who you are, but I think that’s just unrealistic. I hope people hear this song and feel that they’re not alone in this struggle of identity and finding their place in the world. It’s a shared experience, and I believe many people can relate.

Can you share a bit about your musical background and the journey that led you to where you are today?

Music has always been a part of my identity. I studied songwriting and moved to Berlin (Germany) to pursue a career in music. I ended up working as a songwriter for/with other artists after the pandemic hit and forced me to cancel the shows for my solo project. That’s great — I’m still working as a songwriter; it helped me sharpen my skills and become a better writer and musician. But after a few years, I also realized that it’s not enough. I’m not “just” a songwriter — I’m an artist. So, I decided to focus on my own project and invest my resources in my own legacy.

Are there any upcoming projects or releases that you're particularly excited about?

I’m going to release my first EP ‘Prophecy!’ I’m super excited to share these songs with you x
