5 Q&A With Leopoldo et Lacerda

What was the creative process like for this particular EP?

I was inspired by the uniqueness of how each and every one of us faces time. In social settings, our alone time (do we want it, need it dread it). Live positions you in different time slots, some you create and control some you’re a slave to. This all brings me to self-freedom. Do you control your time? Can you do what you want or are you conditioned by all of the above factors.

I like to think there’s a balance, if one is balanced. But who is?

So in a way “Heremita” or hermit for me is a reflection of my own selfishness in society. My time. To read, sleep, whatever you like to do alone. And then invite and share your true friends and soulmates into that special place, if you feel like sharing, and share life and make memories.

Sounds easy? Add society to the mix.

This was my base inspiration for the “EP”.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for 'Eremita' to life?

I’m a one-man band. I create most of my loops, dig some from legal databases and add some real-time action. I mainly enjoy that head groove where you get lost and I try to produce only what I feel is right.
I know that my music is not for everyone, but I’ve found my uniqueness, my voice, and I’m very happy with it.
Any music I release has to have that “thing”… It’s a feeling, if it does, as weird as it is, I’ll publish it.

I’m in this for the money. I just want to have fun, and if it’s contagious, well hurrah! Job done.

Quick answer: I’m the producer and engineer.

What is your personal favorite track(s) from 'Eremita' and why?

Well they were all my favourites, I’m a good dad… lol

No really, they all came together in a way that if you hear the EP from start to finish, they all have (in my mind at least) a continuum. They complement each other like chapters of a book. So they are unique in their presentation but they are on under a wider view…

Can you tell us more about you as a band?

The band is me, Leopoldo and Lacerda are the hemispheres of my creative persona.
I had been producing music for a while, a very famous Portuguese musician gave me the push and I in a very shy manner started putting some songs out… Never expected any return, but slowly, there some people out there that think a bit different… And here we are, in all honesty, the creation process is a very cathartic process for me, where I relax deeply.
And so was born Leopoldo et Lacerda, where songs are stories to be enjoyed.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs or musical ideas?

Feelings, philosophical questions about life, morals, boundaries and so on.
My inspiration is my humanity.
