5 Q&A With Gwen Dickey

Can you talk about any specific themes or motifs that run throughout 'This Is Gwen Dickey?'

There are no specific themes that run throughout my new EP apart from love and yearning perhaps. The songs have a common vibe and go together well for sure.

How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for this EP to life?

Working with producers to bring my vision of the EP to life was a labour of love and took around two years. One of the producers is a friend and had been one of the in house writers for my former producer, the late, great Norman Whitfield. Norman was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I wanted the music to sound fresh and modern, leaving what I'd achieved musically as lead singer of Rose Royce. Bringing Gwen Dickey to centre stage and planting new seeds in music and my career was of tremendous importance.

Which song(s) do you like the best and why?

It's hard to choose one song that I like better than the other. All four are my babies and close to my heart. It’s like trying to choose one of your children as a favourite over the others!!

What has been the most memorable experience or achievement in your music career so far?

The most memorable experience in my career so far is to have worked with and been guided by as already mentioned, the Late great Norman Whitfield. He was truly a Genius.

How do you hope your music resonates with your audience? What message or feeling do you aim to convey through your vocals?

I hope that all my fans will embrace the new material as they have done with the music from the past. I know people still hold the Rose Royce classic hits with great passion. The feeling I aim to convey through my vocals, is to continue giving from my heart and soul, the love with each note I project. When you sing from that place inside you, people can feel that love touching them. This is what I aim to achieve when people listen to my music.
