5 Q&A With Dodo

Is there a person/event that stimulated the creation of "Breakup Call?"

It’s quite interesting, because the lyrics of the song weren’t inspired by any event. I’ve sent over Szonja the instrumental, and she came up with lyrics. Funnily Szonja even mentioned that she wasn’t in a relationship for quite a while. The mood of the beat was the biggest influence on her.

Can you talk about the recording and production process for this "Breakup Call?"

I wanted to take my music in a new direction, in the past I was focusing more on making more ‘complex music’, in a way I was putting too many instruments in the song. With this song I wanted to make things more simple, keeping it more minimalistic.

I’ve sent over the beat to Szonja and she instantly was in tune with the beat and came up with some great lyrics and vocal melodies for it.

What has been one of your favorite memories along the path to making "Breakup Call?"

My favourite memory is when we recorded the vocal track with Szonja. Initially, the song sounded way different. When we were working on it with Szonja, ideas came instantly and we made some great changes to it. Working with Szonja was a great pleasure and we are planning to make other songs as well together.

Can you introduce yourself and share a bit about your journey into music production and visionary art? How did you become a producer and visionary artist?

I started to make music when I was 12. I was playing in a band and then I started to produce music. I was greatly influenced by Tyler, The Creator initially. I made indie electronic music, but as I grew as a producer and as a creative director my taste shifted and I started to make beats and focus on simplicity more. Then I started to pair music with great visuals. I can’t thank enough my team enough at Brainchild Creative Studio for helping my vision come to life.

How do you ensure that your creative vision aligns with the artist's while maintaining their unique style?

I always choose artists for my beats who I think would fit perfectly. This helps a lot, because this way the artists feel more in tune with music and they help the beat come to life in an organic way.
