5 Q&A With Angus Crowne and the Family Jewels

How does 'Everybody Wants To See Me Happy' reflect your musical journey and growth as an artist?

We have always blended the three styles of Ukulele, Punk Rock, and Rockabilly in our previous four records in a nice way, but I believe ‘Everybody Wants To See Me Happy’ is the most balanced record we have released to date. We also presented more production with the title track, “Imaginere,” “Summer Haze,” and “Lullaby Blues Revisited.”

My musical journey and growth continue to be very personal and I believe in my unique sound and work as I get older with hopes that more people will catch on to us.

What impact do you hope this album will have on your audience?

I am hoping for a radio crossover opportunity for the title track and some social media fun with “Lullaby Blues.” We are also excited to tour this summer.

Can you talk about any standout tracks on the album and what makes them special to you?

I really like “Lullaby Blues Revisted” as it's a jazzy rendition of the song which appears on our first record, but the title track speaks volumes for how I really see myself, and how people react to me. I think once you listen to the track and the lyrics, you'll realize how similar we all might be in terms of what other people/society really expects from us.

How would you describe your musical style or genre?

Uke-Billy-Punk Rock as we have always blended the three styles of Ukuele, Punk Rock, and Rockabilly. It's not easy for mainstream acceptance but I don't really care, because the music is fun and quirky, and the fans that enjoy it are the fans we want!

Can you share a story about a collaboration that was particularly challenging or surprising?

I haven't collaborated with anyone to date - I am open to it, though. I am currently looking at some French female rappers to add some parts to “Love Ditty” which I will release as a Funk Splat Remix, we we did a few of our previous tracks.
