Fritillaries “Unearthing”

Fritillaries Unearthing

“Hands searching in the dark and dirt, unearthing something I cannot see. I imagine reaching to grasp the left hand, of a king folded in the earth.” — Lyrics of Fritillaries “Unearthing”

As gentle as soothing, as beautiful as poignant, Fritillaries’ “Unearthing” takes your breath away, while your soul still longs for its silky warmth. The duo of Hannah Pawson and Gabriel Wynne is returning with another original composition, teasing fans for their upcoming debut album under Pear O' Legs Records.

There are so many intricate links in Fritillaries’ music that make it elegant and epic. The grace and mysticism of English folk tradition find a unique sonic palette with the thousand souls of Appalachian string bands and youthful Americana. The result is both profound and innocent. Pawson’s soulfully delivered prose worth a thousand words, while Wynne’s mandolin and guitar work weaves into the warm, humid soil that births a blossom.

Speaking about the story and inspiration behind “Unearthing,” Hannah Pawson shared, “Last winter, my mum sent over a poem she’d written. Unearthing was about digging through the dirt, sifting through the troubles of years, and planting flowers. We talk a lot about time, pace, and the seasonal nature of creativity; things need time to lie fallow, take love, time, and patience, and often grow when you’re not looking.”

The song resonates with the duo’s journey as well. Step by step, brewing the brilliant and delicate musical fruit with love and patience. Fritillaries is a band that never disappoints. If anything, they always, always exceed your expectation.
