Glass Lord “Say My Name”

Glass Lord’s and Ed.1t’s dance remix of Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” takes a bold move switching the defining, origin package of a hit song with their own House mix, and the result is quite surprising. Unlike Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” that forefronts Beyoncé’s sexy vocal above it all, Glass Lord and Ed.1t discovers the moody, atmospheric texture that could be explored more with the melodies and lyrics. Instead of producing a crystal-clear vocal line, they takes the opposite creative direction to make Glass Lord’s smooth and soulful vocal more obscure. With the sponge-like, deep sensuous soundscapes and heavy dance beat, their own sonic cocktail of “Say My Name” hits unlike any others.

The beauty of Ed.1t and Glass Lord’s version is that they don’t just stop at one sonic palette, they impress listeners with a range of sensations and moods that gradually collide with one another and birth new possibilities. It doesn’t take long for Ed.1t’s clever guitar line to surface. At that point, it seems that the artists have arrived at a place true to their heart. It’s a whole new color, vibrant and refreshing. It leans into the edginess and emotive side that electric guitar carries. At the same time, Glass Lord’s vocal is broken into layers. Like looking into a mirror, it’s dazzling and surreal. At that point, or any point, his vocal stops being the instrument that carries out the melody and lyrics, but it becomes a texture and an impression.

“Say My Name” is an intriguing introduction to Glass Lord’s and Ed.1t’s music universe. However, it’s missing one key element — Glass Lord’s intoxicating melody. The artist writes addictive melodies that feel literally like taking drugs from your ears. He has the special touch that seems to bring something so sensuous, tangible and emotional to the dance floor that instantly separates his music from others’. His two latest releases, “Moonlight” and “Santorini” have history and soul in his melodies, which his smooth and moody vocal bring out so effortless.

“Say My Name” poses a refreshing take on Destiny Child’s hit song. It’s also quite an interesting track in the collaboration between Ed.1t and Glass Lord. It certainly makes you crave more for their original music and at the same time, get to know a different side of the artists.
