MEMORY MOTEL “HAZEL EYES”
“HAZEL EYES” seems to be more on the edge of being ever more expansive. The latest release from MEMORY MOTEL sees an explosive drum wrapped in a silky synth sensitivity. The up-tempo track is overwhelming and immersive. like the hurricane, it immediately takes you with its swirling psychedelic, hysteric storm.
One thing that makes this track so fascinating is the layers of vocals that present an interchangeable, fluid-like flow that sinks and flows, riding the waves. At times, the sweet sultry vocal of Ruby Ward takes you down a secret passage of intoxicating fruity imaginations. The other times, Ben Perry-led vocal fills the space with more angsty, emotive longings that feel more than ever aching and cathartic. The obscurity around the two of them give the track many of its best moments. It’s hard to really know for sure what is happening, but the color keeps changing and the wheels keep on spinning.
“HAZEL EYES” definitely feels more angst-filled on top of its everlasting dreamful sensations, where the hormones in the air wakes you from those lucid wet dreams. A touch of melancholia takes you down a nostalgic memory lane. It seems to recall something from the childhood, innocent, lingering and beautiful, at the same time, the unstoppable force that pushes every one of us forward is wrapped in the anxious overflowing thoughts and thoughtlessness.
From every note to every word, “HAZEL EYES” is highly relatable. It directly interacts with those overwhelming feelings and thoughts that seem to stop at the tip of your tongues and solidifies theme with the swirling, sultry, ever changing soundscapes.
