Gal Gadot Responds to Being Barbie’s First Choice

Though it’s hard to picture anyone other than Margot Robbie being Barbie, the actor/producer of the $1 Billion grossing film revealed that she wasn’t her first choice for the role. She wanted Gal Gadot for the legendary role, but due to scheduling conflicts, the Wonder Woman star wasn’t available for the role. Her entire persona then became the calling card for casting directors to search for Barbie.

“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy,” Robbie told Vogue in May.“Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky. It’s like right before being a dork.”

In a recent interview, Gal Gadot responded to being the first choice for Barbie. “I adore Margot. Margot is one of those women who you just want to be friends with,” she told Flaunt Magazine. “She is so funny, warm, funny and smart and obviously so talented. She brings so much to the table. I would love to do anything with Margot and was very touched. She warmed my heart with everything that she said about me. I’m super excited for them, and I’m so excited for Barbie.

Gal Gadot wasn’t the only star that viewers could have seen in Barbie if things were better aligned. Director Greta Gerwig told CinemaBlend that she also tried to get her Lady Bird stars Saorise Ronan and Timothee Chalamet to do a cameo. However, neither of them was available. “It was going to be a specialty cameo,” Gerwig said. “I was also going to do a specialty cameo with Timmy. Both of them couldn’t do it and I was so annoyed. But I love them so much. But it felt like doing something without my children. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom.”

Barbie is currently playing in theater.
