Greta Gerwig Reveals How She Got Ryan Gosling to Sing “I’m Just Ken”

Greta Gerwig reflected on her journey of getting Ryan Gosling on board for “I’m Just Ken.” In an interview with Rolling Stone, the director admitted that she didn’t think Gosling would have agreed to it if she had pitched him directly with the idea.

“I think if I had said, ‘I want you to sing and dance in this movie,’ he would not have necessarily done that for me,’ admitted Gerwig. “But it was kind of that thing of boiling a lobster. I think by the time he was singing and dancing, he didn’t even totally know how we had gotten there, but he’s so fabulous at it.”

However, the stress could have been only in her head. The director also admitted that they “got there organically.” “He has a beautiful voice, and he’s a beautiful dancer,” Gerwig remarked. “We kind of got there organically.”

Gosling eventually joined the star-dudded Barbie soundtrack alongside Slash, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj and more. “I’m Just Ken” also trended across social platforms.
