Elon Musk Rebrands Twitter to “X”
Twitter is going through a major rebranding. As of this morning, the iconic bird logo has been replaced by “X” on the web version. While Twitter.com remained live and the app version stayed the same, users can expect more changes to come. Elon Musk also envisioned changing the platform’s default blue to black in pair with the new design.
When asked what the new “tweets” would be called, Musk replied, “x’s.”
Explaining the meaning behind “X,” Musk gave the best response, “To embody the imperfections in us all that make us unique.”
However, the rebranding isn’t as simple as a design change. New CEO Linda Yaccarino shed light on the new directions the social platform is heading: “X is the future state of unlimited interactivity – centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. Powered by AI, X will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.”
Musk has been teasing major changes to the platform since he bought the company last year. He envisioned an “everything app” similar to WeChat in China. In April, he changed the name of the company from Twitter Inc. to X Corp. Recently, the social media company enforced a limit on the number of daily direct messages from unverified users to reduce spam. If users wanted to increase daily messages, they will have to join the subscription service launched last year.
