Dr. Dre Turned Down Working With Prince and Michael Jackson: “These Are My F*ckin Heroes”

Not everyone is given a chance to work with their childhood heroes, and only a few of them has the courage to work away from an opportunity like that, but this was not the case with Dr. Dre. In the recent episode of Kevin Hart’s talk show Hart to Heart, the producer revealed his reason why.

“These are my fuckin’ heroes. I like the idea of what I grew up listening to and I want to keep it like that. And I don’t want to fuck up that idea and that look,” said Dre. “They just asked me to work with them and I just was like, ‘What the fuck am I going to do with them?”

When asked if he had any regret, Dr. Dre admitted that he didn’t want the work to affect how he felt about Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, and all of these “amazing artists.”

Instead, he focuses on artists who were at the beginning of their careers and helped them grow. Dr. Dre was the one who discovered big acts like Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem and helped them launch a career in hip hop.

“Nobody comes in with an agenda. It’s a ball of clay when they walk in the room. You can just form it and do what you want. That’s what I want,” said Dre. And the creative freedom he has would not apply to more established artists.
