“Not 63 Days without a note” addresses the situation in Ukraine. The piece reflects on the tragic fact of people dying and those who profit from feeding the smokescreen of ignorance. The dark, strengthful low frequencies march in at the very beginning of the piece.

The pianist and aerospace engineer Leonardo Barilaro sends down those chilling high notes that seem to alert and scream, but even in distress, there is warmth within the shimmering light and hope, which the piano again evokes.

The piano as an instrument becomes so much more when Barilaro’s fingertips hit the keyboard, the voice from his heart is joined by the imaginations of his mind. A scratchy hang drum meets the piano somewhere in the middle of the journey. The two instruments engage in an uncanny polyrhythmic dance while the hypnotic rhymic undertone continues to evolve.

“Not 63 days without a note” belongs to Barilaro’s yearlong project “Space Piano Music Everyday,” inspired by his personal mantra, Nullo Die Sine Nota (not a day without a note). Every day, Barilaro will release a piece of new music onto all streaming platforms and a related video on YouTube.
