Vermilion “Point Of Return”

“Point Of Return” is an emotive masterpiece from Vermilion, for they have reached the point of no return. Cathartic, hard-hiitting, and in introspective retrograde, “Point Of Return” is a civil war, where the gunfire is pointed inward. It sees the self painfully fighting against the storm, seeking a way out. A metallic smash of contradictions and introspections.

Gritty, terrifying, thrilling and at times tender and cinematic. “Point Of Return” isn’t a song that stays in one place. It takes listeners onto an emotional roller coaster, spiraling down a path of danger and darkness, diving deep under the deepest, and reaching beyond the most captivating. The electrifying track has plenty of twists and changes in its multi-dimensional storytelling. It seems that the band has outdone themselves. Never have them released a song as hard-hitting and complex as “Point Of Return.”

The turbulent track is on the heavy spectrum of Vermilion. Even the lyrics are stirring and intensive, but somehow the process seems organic. Each shift of color and texture in the song feels effortless and well-deserved. The transformation is never forced. Like the ebbs and flows of things, they remain a well-attended balance navigating from epic, tear-jerking chorus to haunting whispers to the dense drums of instruments to drastic turmoils of chaos. Their music conveys each of these themes wonderfully with precision. Vermilion doesn’t miss their marks.

There are layers and layers underneath their linear storytelling. Essentially, each instrument has a unique play in storytelling. Like a vertical narrative that’s narrowing and swelling horizontally as well, there’s so much going on than what meets the eyes. Vermilion has previously showcased their range, but “Point Of Return” is simply next level.

“Point Of Return” signals a new era for the energetic and passionate band.
