SAGE SUEDE ‘Renegade’

Sexy, disobedient and cool. Renegade puts you in a sensational audio-visual mood. SAGE SUEDE, the experimental mastermind, bends genres with style. His fusion of hip hop, indie, rock, psychedelic and pop is simply you’ve heard of. Renegade, the very sexy album sees him in a sensuously wild ride. Fueled by creative freedom and SAGE’s unique aesthetic, the album stirs you with its identity and unmistakable appeal.

Renegade marks SAGE’s 4th release. Rich grooves and cool vibes in the good company of unconventional soundscapes finds SAGE in fierce writing mode. The very talent artist seems to never run out of ideas to surprise you. The pun-intended “New Diet” is a gentle tease of what has yet to come. Weird, but hot. Like bringing an orgasm to your tongue, linking those fascinating senses together through the sonics.

“Just Trippin” sees SAGE in a different mood, though still following the thread of sex and senses. It’s peeling away something, deepening, as well as intensifying. There’s a very interesting vertical movement that happens within this album, while horizontally, it contrasts and expands. The rap style on this album also follows the same as the sonics and lyricist get to strange but familiar places.

Not getting a damn about what people think is at core of this delicious rebellion in Renegade. Just falling, while reaching, being the present and at the same time not at the present is a powerful thing. Renegade goes into that mysterious space in a person’s mind. The place that holds our imagination, love and affection. It’s such a complex yet completely spontaneous feeling SAGE created for his listeners to savor.

Check out our interview with the artist, where we talk about all the weird and fun that happened along the album.

Punk Head: I love your authenticity and the way you bring different genres together. What inspired you to create this album in the first place?

SAGE SUEDE: Renegade is inspired by a lot of experiences, like getting weed in college in various countries and also getting possession of drug paraphernalia citations from crooked country cops. I do all the songwriting so it is from personal experience.

PH: Is there a particular ethos or aesthetic that the album adheres to?

SAGE SUEDE: Yes, I art direct my albums and pick their color schemes. This album has more blue and black, which contrasts with the orange and pink on Savage Summer so there is some of that in the videos. For the Ethos behind the album Renegade, I believe in the legalization of marijuana.

PH: What is your personal favorite song from Renegade and why?

SAGE SUEDE: My favorite tracks are “New Diet” and “My Dank is Deadly” because they're hard-hitting and heavy.

PH: Can you tell us more about you as an artist? and What’s your goal this year?

SAGE SUEDE: I've been working on a new album called Dirty Blonde that I'm planning to release later this year after all of my live albums. The songs were already recorded at Blak Marigold Pro and are in mastering.

PH: What is the one thing that you’d like your fans to know about you?

SAGE SUEDE: The rumors are true; I did have magenta highlights at my last show. It has faded to a natural magenta hombre and I'm on shrooms right now.
