Benjamin David “Sandcastles”
“Sandcastles” sees the cathartic and epic transformation from an intimate piano ballad, blowing up in the fire and ashes of rock n roll. Benjamin David explores loss and longing, against the anguish and frustration toward adulthood escapism. “Sandcastles,” the stormy, emotive immersion, dedicates to his father, who passed away a few years ago. Yet, the shadow of grief still casts down through the window.
David’s sound is a mixture of pain, passion, love and hurt. The highest high meets the lowest low, intertwining into a heart wrenching, sultry expression of the sonics. Flamboyant yet vulnerable. Drastic yet mysterious. As if in retrospect of Ashes To Ashes-era David Bowie. As if the love child of of D’Angelo’s “Voodoo” and Rage Against The Machine’s “Bombtrack.”
Filmed between London and the Dover cliffs, the music video of “Sandcastles” is equally scenic and intricate. It stirs up feelings that you haven’t had a chance to process and evokes memories from the past. As if time has stopped, and this moment would be forever. David’s music does carry a sense of timelessness and eternal longing.
“This song is for anyone who wishes they could suspend time and reality, to live in a fantasy world without sorrow or hardship. Even just for a moment,” he remarked.
