ALF On the Making Of “Gunpoint”
What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of "Gunpoint?"
I have a notes app full of song concepts and titles and I think I saw a TikTok of someone describing their past relationship as feeling like they were being held at gunpoint and it just sounded really cool so I wrote it straight down as an idea to write about.
How did you work with the producer or engineers to bring your vision for "Gunpoint" to life?
As soon as me and Alex started playing the track through the studio speakers, I think we both were having a little foot tap as it's just so catchy and I think that set the mood for the session which helped me really get into it whilst recording.
Have you noticed any particular interpretations or connections that listeners have made with "Gunpoint?"
Not many people had heard the song til release day but my Mum and my manager both said they noticed my writing has come a long way recently since I've started to write more about my personal life so I think them hearing me sing about things that I've gone through made them see my passion for this a bit more.
What has been one of the highlights of your music career so far?
I would love to say being recognised by the music team at TikTok and being placed in their official playlists which is very, very cool and nice of them but I have to say, a brand I'm working with recently requested in a meeting for the content I'm shooting to be based around my life as a musician. Which was a really pleasant surprise as I think it was quite validating for me to be recognised as an artist and not only a content creator.
What is your songwriting process like? How do you usually start crafting a new song?
So usually, I love top-line writing; where I create the melody over an already-produced track, as I can't really play any instruments but I've recently been trying writing chords too and creating a bit of a crappy production demo to take to Alex to clean up, which was the case with my last single. So I'm quite proud of that!
